Volunteering

The benefits of volunteering at the National Civil War Centre, available roles and how to apply.

We couldn't exist without our volunteers.

Volunteers play a key role in welcoming, guiding and assisting visitors in the museum and galleries.

What you can expect from us

As well as the potential to learn new skills and make new friends, you will always receive a very warm welcome, a friendly smile and plentiful supplies of tea, coffee and biscuits.

We will offer you:

  • full training, development opportunities and ongoing support
  • flexible options of when to volunteer
  • travel expenses

Who can volunteer

Generally there are no age restrictions to who can volunteer as long as we have a position for you that will be fulfilling and safe for you and helpful to us.

If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must give permission for you to volunteer and you will be supervised at all times and not left alone.

After you apply

We will be in touch after we receive your application. We’ll arrange an appointment for you to come in so that we can meet you and discuss your application further. You will be able to ask any questions about the role that you are applying for.

These appointments usually last around 30 minutes and are very informal.

If your application is successful after this appointment we will be back in touch with you to arrange a convenient time to come in for an induction to the role and the National Civil War Centre.
